With sadness, we announce the passing of Eileen Sanders on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Eileen was born to Tom and Gladys Johnston Sept 27th 1934, in a farmhouse, about 6 miles North of Choiceland Saskatchewan .

Eileen worked as a switchboard operator at RCAF Station Saskatoon for 10 years after leaving the farm. She married Vernon Ray Sanders in 1962 and left her switchboard position. Her husbands work locations changed often so she found herself living in Davidson , Choiceland and Lac Laronge Saskatchewan until moving out to B.C in 1972 . From there she lived in Hope , Merritt, Mackenzie and Fort Nelson B.C . She briefly moved back to Saskatchewan during the early 90's but returned to B.C in 1995 after her husband passed away to live with her son Tom. From there she lived in North Vancouver and Port Alberni before finally settling down in Nanaimo B.C where she lived the last 16 years of her life.

Eileen loved life and lived to laugh . She often spoke of her years growing up on the farm with her best friend Edna, her pet bear Bruno, and a horse named Fanny. She was an active member of the Order of Royal Purple throughout her life and spent many hours working for charity. In later years she took an interest in hockey and became an avid fan of the Vancouver Canucks and rarely missed a game. Without complaint she forged through life and wore a smile on her face even when others didn't . She was, and is, loved and she will be dearly missed.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Vernon and her brothers and sisters Wilfred, Lucille, David, Darlene and Marlene.

Eileen is survived by her son Tom, special friends Jacquie and Chris, her brother in laws Norman , Ron, Mike , Sister in laws Ester , Geneva , Joan and Doreen and many, many nieces, nephews and friends from Nanaimo BC, Mackenzie BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta
