We lost our dear Mabel, peacefully, on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Mabel Eileen Pearson (Luco) was born May 28, 1922 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Michael and Bertha Luco (Mehalko). Mabel was the youngest, and only surviving, of seven children.

Mabel met Cliff playing Badminton in Nanaimo in 1955. They were married September 22, 1956 and settled in Nanaimo, raising their family in Cedar. Their love of family, friends, music, dancing, art, and camping (especially Hornby Island) provided a very happy life together for over 60 years.

Beginning her teaching career at the early age of 16, Mabel taught at numerous schools in Alberta and Nanaimo. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have her as a teacher will remember her as someone who truly cared about her students, who still talk about her being the “best teacher they ever had." She was also actively involved with St. Philips (Cedar) and St. Paul's (Nanaimo) Anglican churches.

Predeceased by oldest son, Michael in October of 2015, mom leaves behind her husband, Clifford; son and daughter-in-law, Neale and Denise; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Don; daughter-in-law, Louise; grandchildren, Jenni, Larissa (Peter), Michael (Danielle), Bryanna, Katie (Anthony), Diana (Michael), Evan, Nolan, and Abbi; great grandchildren, Peyton, McKenna, and Carter; sisters-in-law and friends, Bernice, Betty, and Betty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We will forever hold her close in our hearts. Words cannot express the love and loss we all feel losing Mabel. She was an amazing woman, who was so many things to so many people. She will never be replaced.

If you wish, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Bowen Park Complex, 500 Bowen Road, Nanaimo. Please wear bright colours; Mabel would have loved that!
